DAL FRY

A protein and fiber rich basic Indian curry recipe, Dal Fry.

HOW TO MAKE DAL FRY?

INGREDIENTS:

  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee/Oil - 2 tbsp.
  • Salt - as per your taste.
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Dry chili - 1 whole.
  • Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp.
  • Curry leaves - a spring.
  • Corriander Leaves - a spring
  • Onion - 1 small or 1/2 big onion.
  • Tomato - 1 small size
  • Green chilli - 1
  • Garlic - 5 colves.
  • Ginger - 1 cm
  • Turmeric - 1/8 tsp.
  • Chili powder - 1/4 tsp.
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp

METHOD:

  1. Wash and soak Dal in 2 cups of water for 20 min.
  2. Pressure cook it in soaked water for 3-4 whistles.
  3. Make a paste out of ginger, garlic and green chili.
  4. Heat ghee/oil in a pan.  Sputter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Add the dry chili. 
  5. Saute for 20 sec. Add the curry leaves and saute for another 10 sec.
  6. Add the paste prepared and saute til the raw smell goes.
  7. Add the onion alongside add salt, turmeric and asafoetida and saute till transparent.
  8. Add chili powder and coriander powder and saute till  raw smell goes.
  9. Add chopped tomato and cook till it cooks and becomes soft.
  10. Mash it lightly and add the garam masala and mix well .
  11. Now add the cooked toor dal and mix well.
  12. Add 1/2 a cup of hot water mix well and cover and cook for 2 min.
  13. Open the lid and cook till your consistency requirement. Off the flame
  14. Garnish with coriander leaves , give it a mix.
  15. Keep it aside for 10 min undisturbed.
Serve hot with Rice or Chapati .
