HOW TO MAKE KHICHDI?

INGREDIENTS:

  • Rice – 500g
  • Lentils – 225g (Any)
  • Peas – 225g
  • Potato – 450g
  • Onion – 225g
  • Turmeric – ½ tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumin – ½ tsp
  • Salt – as per your taste
  • Cardamom – 2-3 g
  • Cloves – 2-3 g
  • Sugar – a pinch
  • Fat – 1 Tbsp (Ghee is a healthy choice)

METHOD:

  1. Wash and soak the lentils and rice separately.
  2. Shell the peas and peel the potato.
  3. Slice onions.
  4. Heat the fat in a pan, brown the onion, remove half of it and keep it aside.
  5. Add lentils, sugar and spices.
  6. Add the rice and vegetable. Fry all together still rice begins to stick
  7. Cover it with hot water to about 1 inch or 2.5cm above the level of the solids.
  8. Add salt. Cook on slow fire.

Serve hot garnished with brown onions.
